Context: The Traveling Bowl, a local restaurant in Hutchinson, KS, recently implemented a new POS system. To ensure efficient and accurate order processing, the restaurant sought to develop a comprehensive training program for new employees. The lack of a built-in training program for the new POS system posed a challenge, as traditional on-the-job training methods were time-consuming and disruptive to daily operations.
Challenges:
Client Challenges: Increased order errors and slower service due to the new POS system and lack of a structured training program for new employees.
Development Challenges: Difficulty in obtaining high-quality screenshots of the POS system for simulation development.
Solutions: To address these challenges, an eLearning course was developed. This comprehensive training program includes interactive lessons and realistic simulations. Due to limitations in obtaining high-quality POS system screenshots, simulations were meticulously crafted using Storyline to replicate real-world scenarios. Learners can practice order taking, payment processing, inventory management, and discount application within these simulations.
Results: The eLearning course is scheduled for deployment in November 2024. By providing a structured and engaging learning experience, the course aims to:
Reduce order errors and improve efficiency.
Accelerate employee onboarding and training time.
Enhance customer satisfaction through improved service.
To further refine the course, a post-training survey will be administered to gather feedback from learners and identify areas for improvement.
Each lesson in the Traveling Bowl POS training program is designed to facilitate effective learning and skill retention. It begins with an engaging Vyond animation to introduce the topic, followed by a narrated and annotated demonstration of the POS system. To reinforce learning, learners immediately apply their knowledge in a realistic Storyline-built simulation. This simulation provides immediate feedback and a help button to guide learners through the process. By breaking down complex tasks into five progressive lessons, the training ensures a gradual learning curve and builds learner confidence. This approach aligns with Merrill's First Principles, prioritizing demonstration and application to maximize learning outcomes.
